Frequently Asked Questions From Our Visitors
Picture
What can I expect when I visit?
You will find a warm, friendly congregation waiting to welcome you. Regardless of your nationality, income level, education level, or occupation in life, there is a place for you and your family in our church family.  Our Sunday Morning Worship service is between one hour and ninety minutes long and includes congregational singing, special music, testimonies, and the preaching and teaching of God's Word, the Bible.
What should I wear to church?
We do not have a "dress code" at our church. Wear what you already have in your closet. You will see some people "dressed up" in their "Sunday best" and some will be dressed more casually. More important than what you wear is that you come with an open heart and mind.
What is your worship "style" like?
We believe we are suppose to worship God with sincerity, humility, and excellence. We try to avoid worship styles that reflect our former lifestyles - the kind we used to live before God changed us. If we embrace worldly methods and sounds into our worship, it just ends up sending a mixed message to the unbelievers, even if motivated by a sincere desire to reach out to them. We believe the church must be different than the world in order to give people something they can embrace that is nobler and better than the worldliness they are leaving.

While we want each worshiper's experience to be a joyful one, we are not seeking to entertain. The core meaning of entertainment is to direct attention away from serious matters and to focused upon the pleasure of the one being entertained. In contrast, spiritual worship is the opposite of entertainment. True worship directs our hearts and minds to the deep and serious things of God. True worship is about the pleasure we can bring to God by self-sacrificing our own interest and desires.

In our worship services, we strive for a heartfelt, passionate, and joyful sound that conveys a humble spirit before God. We purpose to avoid musical styles that are primarily designed to indulge the flesh. We enjoy singing the doctrinally-rich hymns of the faith and meaningful choruses centered upon God and His Word. While our music will warm and thrill your heart, our first priority is to glorify the Lord and then to edify the believer. Our style is conservative, informal, joyful, sacred - but never dull and stuffy.

Do I have to bring a Bible?
We believe the Bible is God's only Word for us today and is the instruction manual for this life and all eternity. There are plenty of extra Bibles in each row that are within arm's reach of your seat during the church service in case you didn't bring one. Feel free to take one home with you if you don't already have a Bible. Our church uses the regular Authorized Verison of the Bible; commonly called the King James Version.
Will I be asked to give money?
Giving an offering is simply an act of worship and obedience for the folks who call Cliffview Chapel their church home. As a visitor, you just being here is enough. So please don't feel obligated to give when the offering baskets are passed, unless you freely desire to do so.
Do you have a nursery for my baby?
We love children! We believe it is important for families to worship together. However, we have a nursery staffed with caring volunteers for the young children during all of our services just in case you need it. Your child's safety and spiritual well-being is important to us.
Do you offer spiritual counseling?
Most of life's problems and issues can be solved by simply applying the Biblical truths given during the regular church services. However, if you have spiritual questions or spiritual problems that need more personal attention, please feel free to contact Pastor Hounshell to schedule a time to meet in person.
What are your facilities like?
Our church building is completely ground level and totally handicap accessible. Our newly remodeled building includes child care in our nursery for the little children. There is plenty of paved, off-street parking right at our front door.
What is the history of Cliffview Chapel Baptist Church?
Cliffview Chapel Baptist Church was established in Kanab in July 2005 through the efforts of missionary church planter, Doug Hounshell, along with his wife, Tricia, and daugther, Hope. They held the first church service on July 24, 2005 in the conference room of the Shilo Inn. The church soon out grew this conference room and moved to the Kanab City Community Room. In May 2009, a permanent church building was leased and remodeled. This new facility was dedicated on July 25, 2009.

What is a Baptist church?
As an independent Baptist church, we are not affiliated with any particular Baptist denomination or ruling body. Because of this we can support our own missionaries, select our own leaders, and support institutions that believe as we believe. In short, our church answers to the headship of Jesus Christ rather than a denominational body. There are currently more than 10,000 independent Baptist churches in America and thousands more throughout the world.
